Marriage also needs Maintenance

Maintenance: the process of preserving a condition or situation or state or being preserved

Your car needs it. Your devices needs it. Your home needs it. Maintenance is a KEY factor in making sure that anything, and everything including your body runs in tip top shape.

Everything that you stop taking care of will eventually slow down, have trouble functioning normally, break and eventually stop working altogether. The same thing applies when it comes to relationships, especially marriage. If it’s not well taken care of, over time it will deteriorate and break down.

It’s important to remember that we are forever changing – no one stays the same. In a marriage both individuals will go through changes. Life events such as having children affects and changes people and this is why it’s important forcouples to stay invested in one another and go for ‘regular maintenance checks’ when it comes to their marriage.

Maintaining your marriage is all about the small things and how you say them. How often do you genuinely say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ to your husband or wife? Not just for formality’s sake – but truly meaning it. When was the last time you asked your spouse about their day and actually listened and waited to engage in their answer? Do you get excited to wish your partner good morning or good night? Do you do the small things daily to show your love towards your partner?

As you can see, maintaining your marriage doesn’t have to be tedious and strenuous. You’re working together on the same team, so appreciate each other.

It’s easy to say the words ‘I love you’, but what’s important is to show your partner through your daily actions. As a part of this maintenance, join us on Thursdays at the Love Therapy  – a special night dedicated for couples to come together and invest in an essential part of what constitutes any healthy relationship, that is, communication.

The meetings are aimed at helping couples learn to develop a healthy dialogue to bring them closer together and learn invaluable tips from other couples who have been together for over a decade.

Remember, marriages also need maintenance so, no matter your couple status—dating, engaged, living together, married—if you want your relationship to stand the test of time, join us this Thursday!
