The Lord’s Supper of Return

Normally a feast is done when a great moment of celebration happens. A graduation, a wedding and even the return of a lost son…

This was the case of the prodigal son’s father in Luke 15. A son received all the inheritance of his father, lived life as he pleased and wasted it all with prodigal living. When times became hard, no one helped him out, and that’s when he remembered his father. He knew he didn’t deserve to come back because of the wrong things he did but he recognized he had sinned before his father, he didn’t deserve to be his son anymore, all he wanted now was just to be a hired servant. What he did not expect was for his father to have compassion on him and be overjoyed for his return.

“And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry.” (Luke 15: 23-24)

You see, you may have wandered off from the path, done what you never imagined you would do, and feel like you’re at the bottom of the pit. But know that just the fact that your still alive means you have the chance to make things right again. Unlike people who point out your mistakes, God is ready to receive you with open arms. You cannot imagine the joy He’ll have by seeing you walk inside His house again and receive the peace the world cannot give you.

“Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.” (Psalm 116.7)
